What Natural Remedies To Use For Skin Problems
People often ask about what natural remedies to use for Skin Problems
We all have problems with our skin from time to time, and we need to know the best way to deal with them.
Here I will be discussing some of the most common skin problems, and showing you the best Natural Remedies to use for these problems
Proprietary products often contain chemicals which we really would not wish to put on our skin as they can sometimes cause allergic reactions, and can also be absorbed into our bodies. So I will only be recommending the purest of ingredients.
Whether you want to know the best way to treat skin disorders or the best way to take care of your skin on a daily basis, there are natural remedies that will help with that. Quite often it will be a combination of natural ingredients that will meet your needs.
I will show you which ingredients to use for the remedies, and how to obtain them, and will also recommend some natural products which you may like to purchase. If possible, always use Organic products.
What Natural Remedies To Use For Skin Disorders and Discomfort
Some disorders of the skin can appear quite suddenly, so it is always a good idea to have some emergency strategies ready to use. I will try to cover some of the most common ones:
- Blemishes
- Blisters
- Cold Sores
- Eczema
- Head Lice
- Impetigo
- Itch Relief
- Insect Bites and Stings
- Warts and Verrucas
What Natural Remedies To Use For Blemishes.
Spots and blemishes can be distressing as they often have a tendency to appear virtually overnight, very often at a time when you least want them!
Don’t be tempted to squeeze them (a completely natural reaction) as that may cause scarring!
Instead, boost your blood circulation by bathing them with a clean cloth dipped alternately in hot then cold water for at least one minute. You can do this as often as you like. After bathing them, dab them with Tea Trea Essential oil to soothe and heal them. You should be able to use the Tea Tree directly on to your skin, and you will probably get a tingling sensation which is a sign that the Tea Tree is doing its work. If you have extremely sensitive skin, then it may be a good idea to mix the Tea Tree drops with a little Almond oil before using them.
What Natural Remedies To Use For Blisters
Blisters can be very uncomfortable, and are often caused by your shoes, especially after a long walk.
If you do get a blister, all you want to do is to get rid of it!
One of the best ways to treat it is with Aloe Vera, which is a great healer and it is also an astringent.
I have several Aloe Vera plants on my window sill, and they are very easy to grow. Alternatively, you can use Aloe Vera Gel.
Treatment
- If you are using fresh Aloe Vera, take a small piece of the peeled leaf, put it on the blister, and cover with a clean dressing. Change the dressing twice a day.
- If you are using Aloe Vera Extract, then do exactly as above just substituting the extract for the fresh Aloe.
- When your blister has burst, clean it with an equal amount of Witch Hazel and Tea Tree Essential Oil, then put some Comfrey cream on it at least twice a day. Comfrey is an amazing healer for broken skin.
What Natural Remedies To Use For Cold Sores
Cold Sores are caused by the virus Herpes Simplex.
Warts and Verrucas are caused by the same virus, which will enter the body through any kind of crack in the skin.
If you have a cold sore, wart or verruca, avoid any contact with any other person in the area of the problem, as that will pass the virus on to them.
Treatment for Cold Sores
- Add a few drops of organic Tea Tree Essential Oil to a Carrier oil such as organic Almond Oil.
- Using a cotton bud, dab the mixture on to your cold sores several times a day.
- Doing this will help to dry up the Cold Sores.
Treatment for Warts and Verrucas
Again, Tea Tree is a great treatment for warts and verrucas, but in this case do not dilute the Tea Tree in any way. Put the neat tea tree on to a cotton bud or ball and apply to the wart or verruca several times a day.
Tea Tree has anti-viral properties, and will deal effectively with warts if used frequently.
You can also use raw fresh Garlic which also has strong anti-viral powers. It is not a good idea to put garlic straight onto your skin, as the skin surrounding the wart or verruca could be burned.
In order to avoid this, spread a layer of Vitamin E oil which you have removed from a Vitamin E capsule over the area, then apply mashed garlic on top and cover with a dressing. Leave it there for a day and then remove it. You should find that a blister has formed, and you can continue to treat it with Tea Tree until it has disappeared.
What Natural Remedies to use For Eczema
Eczema frequently appears in childhood, and children can “grow out of it”.
But it can be unbearably itchy and sometimes painful, and it is very necessary to alleviate it as much as possible.
Eczema is sometimes attributed to allergies. and being very aware of your own or your child’s diet can help a good deal.
The medical profession tend to prescribe Steroid cream, which I particularly did not want to use on my child.
Diet
In my experience with childhood eczema, I found that the use of goats milk, butter and cheese products instead of cow’s milk products was a great help. I also tried to substitute wheat products for Rye bread and Pasta wherever possible.
Proof that this was effective was the considerable reduction, and sometimes disappearance, of the eczema symptoms, but they tended to return if cow’s milk or wheat products were used for more than the odd few days.
Omega 3 It is important to include in your diet foods which are rich in Omega 3 fatty acids. Omega #helps to reduce allergic reactions and is anti-inflammatory. These foods are:
- Oily fish, such as Tuna, Salmon and Mackerel.
- Walnuts
- Avocados
- Flax Seed Oil – This can be added to salad dressings, smoothies or even to Yogurt. Do not use this for cooking, as the heat will destroy its Omega 3 properties.
You can also obtain Omega 3 supplements.
Vitamin A is also very important. It is available as a supplement, but it is preferable to obtain it from foods, such as green leafy vegetables, carrots, yellow fruits, eggs and cod liver oil.
Vitamin E is also important for Eczema sufferers. Again, it is preferable to obtain it from foods. Vitamin E can be found in Wheat Germ. Sunflower Seeds, Almonds, Spinach, Avocados, Sweet Potatoes and Butternut Squash.
What Natural Remedies to Use For the Relief of Itching.
Bathing. Take a good handful of organic oatmeal or oats and tie them in a small muslin bag, or you could cut up a thin cotton diaper and use that.
Run a warm bath, and add the bag of oats to the bath and swish it around in the water. Alternatively you could add some Aveeno oil to the bath. as that contains oats. Oats are very soothing to the skin.
Keep the bath-time short, no more than ten minutes, in order to prevent the skin from becoming too dry.
Organic Extra Virgin Coconut Oil is a great treatment for dry, itchy skin, and is an effective alternative to Steroid cream. Apply it to wherever it is needed, and it can also be safely applied to your scalp too if that is itchy, as it is also great for your hair!
What Natural remedies To Use For Head Lice
Head Lice are really prevalent amongst school children, as they are passed so very easily from head to head.
When I had to treat my own children for head lice, which was all too often, I was very distressed by the strong vapours from the chemical cures which I was prescribed. I really hated having to put it on my children’s heads, so I determined to find an effective alternative.
Treatment
- Mix together 30ml of Organic Coconut Oil with 7 drops each of Tea Tree, Lavender and Ylang Ylang Essential Oils. This combination of essential oils is toxic to head lice.
- Massage the mixture thoroughly into the scalp and cover the head with a disposable shower cap and leave for 1-2 hours.
- Meanwhile, make up a special rinse which will help to remove any remaining head lice by softening the “glue” which causes the eggs to stick to the hair.
- Mix 6 drops each of Lavender and Rosemary Essential Oils with one pint each of Apple Cider Vinegar and warm water.
- When the time is up, thoroughly shampoo the hair and rinse it normally.
- Then gradually add the rinse which you have made and massage it into the scalp.
- Once again cover the head with a disposable shower cap and leave for about 15 minutes.
- Remove the cap and using a fine tooth lice-removing comb, carefully comb through all of the hair, rinsing the comb frequently to remove any lice.
- Thoroughly rinse the hair again with warm water, and dry in your usual way
Daily Treatment
In order to help prevent re-infestation, mix 20 drops of Tea Tree Essential Oil with 1 pint of water and put in a spray bottle.
Spray your child’s head each morning and brush or comb it through. Shake the bottle thoroughly before use.
What Natural Remedies To Use For Impetigo
Impetigo is a bacterial skin infection.
If you find you are getting Impetigo it is a good idea to boost your immune system by taking Echinacea tablets as directed on the bottle, or half a teaspoon of Echinacae Extract three times a day whilst you have the infection. Echinacea will help to fight any kind of infection.
Keep the affected areas clean. It is very important to resist scratching, as open wounds encourage the growth of bacteria.
Mix together half a teaspoon each of Lavender and Tea Tree Essential Oils mixed with a tablespoon of organic Almond Oil in a well-sealed bottle. Use a cotton wool ball to apply the mixture to the blisters. Do this three times a day, and continue using it for as long as you need to.
The Lavender will help to alleviate any inflammation, and the Tea Tree will help to dry out the blisters.
If the blisters are weeping, cover them with a clean dressing. You can apply a mixture of half a teaspoon of Turmeric and a tablespoon of organic Coconut oil, or some Manuka Honey to the blisters before covering. Change the dressing frequently.
Of course, if your condition gets worse, then you must consult a doctor.
What Natural remedies To Use For Insect Bites and Stings.
The best way to deal with bites and stings is to use an insect repellent sprayed generously on to your skin. You can make your own repellent spray by combining Citronella Essential Oil with Lavender Essential Oil and Witch Hazel.
Mix together 20 drops of Citronella and 12 drops of Lavender with 100ml Witch Hazel in a plastic spray bottle and shake thoroughly. Use this when biting insects are around, especially towards dusk and after dark, and in areas of stagnant or slow-moving water.
Citronella is a great Insect repellent, and you can also burn Citronella candles if you wish, or put some Citronella into a diffuser.
Where there are lots of mosquitoes around, a great Insect Repellent can be easily made.
- Use a plastic spray bottle.
- Into that put 30ml (1 fl.oz) Rose Water with 30 drops of Citronella Essential Oil.
- Shake the bottle thoroughly.
- Use it when needed to spray on exposed parts of the body.
You can also put Citronella directly on to your body, but the spray is of course easier to use.
If you get a Sting or Bite …..
However, we all suffer from insect bites and stings from time to time, but occasionally some people can have an extreme reaction to them, with excess swelling and pain.
If this happens to you it is extremely important that you seek medical help as soon as you can, as those people who suffer allergic reactions to stings may sometimes go into anaphylactic shock, which should be treated as an Emergency.
However, for most of us, insect bites and stings are just an uncomfortable irritant, and they can benefit from treating with natural remedies.
Treatment
If you have a sting from a bee or a similar insect, you need to ensure that the sting has not been left behind in your skin. If it has then you need to remove it using a fingernail or tweezers.
You can the treat the initial pain by wrapping some ice cubes or an ice pack in some kind of material and holding it over the sting for a while. Do not put ice directly onto your skin, as that could result in an ice “burn”. The ice will numb the pain and will also prevent toxins from the sting being distributed around your body.
When the pain has largely subsided, cleanse the sting area thoroughly with an antiseptic solution. You can make that by combining equal amounts of Witch Hazel and Tea Tree Essential Oil.
If you have a bite, or bites from an insect such as a mosquito which are very itchy, you can use Lavender Essential Oil, which is anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory.
Combine 20 drops of Lavender and 20 drops of Peppermint Essential Oil, which has cooling properties, with 1 fluid ounce of Witch Hazel. Mix those together in a plastic spray bottle and use it whenever you need to calm the itching.

Hi there,
Great article!
You have provided awesome tips for skin issues, and I thank you for it! IMy back is itching badly the last few month, and this happens only in the evening. I went to the Doctor, and he gave me a steroid cream, which I didn’t use because I believe just in natural remedies. I am happily surprised to read that oats and coconut oil reduce itching. I will definitely try these in the following days, and I’ll tell you how it goes. I can’t wait to see the difference:)
Just a question, please. How many times per week would you suggest applying the remedies for the itching problem?
Thank you for this excellent post!
Hi Daniella
I am so happy that you found the information useful. Natural Remedies really are effective 🙂
I don’t think there are any rules about how many times a week you can use the remedies for itching – I use them whenever I feel I need to, you will know when.
It does sound as though dry skin may be your problem – moisturising with Aveeno oil or cream after bathing will certainly help.
Many thanks for your comment
Chrissie 🙂
I like the idea of using natural remedies to fix skin issues.
I must say they usually take longer to work, but then, there are generally less side effects.
However, I must say that I have tried a few that you mention in this article. Tea tree oil literally burnt my face, hence I would advise anyone to dilute it or to mix it with a carrier oil to avoid going through what I went through.
I love aloe vera on my face: so refreshing and envigorating. I used to make a mask with it, mixed with organic lemon juice. I saw some improvement on my acne, but again, it took time.
I like the tips you gave for those suffering with eczema. I don’t have any personally, but my sister’s child has bad eczema. I told her this may be food related, but I’m going to give her your site, so she can maybe learn a thing or two about controlling eczema with diet.
Thank you for this great post!
Didi
Hi Didi,
Many thanks for your comments.
I agree that Natural Remedies may take a little longer to work, but they will work.
I am so sorry that I omitted to say that Tea Tree oil should be mixed with a little Carrier oil when used on the face, I have now changed that!
I really like your idea of an Aloe Vera face mask – I will be doing a subsequent post on everyday skin care very soon, and I will include that if I may!
I am really pleased that you enjoyed the post:)
Chrissie
I’m indeed very happy for the great help that Dr. Peterwise rendered to me, I am here to give my testimony about a doctor who helped me in my life. I and my husband was infected with HERPES SIMPLEX VIRUS last 4 years ago, we went to many hospitals for cure but there was no solution, on till one faithful day , we saw a blog whereby Dr. Peterwise cured a woman who also had herpes affection,we (Me and My HUSBAND) decided to contact him which we did, he asked us to buy some items, unfailingly we sent him the money he will need in buying the items required , He caste the spell and sent me some herbs. He asked me to go for check-up after 7 days of casting the spell, Luckily for me we were tested herpes negative, now I believe all these Testimonies about him on the internet, he is truly a great man, if you are going through the same problem and you need help you can contact the great Herbalist(peterwiseherbalhome@gmail.com) or WhatsApp +2348112864994
That is really interesting William.
I am not too sure what you mean by “casting a spell” though!
But I am really pleased to hear that your problem was resolved by the use of Natural Remedies,
They are indeed much more effective tan many people give them credit for.
Many thanks for your comment
